About the Urns
All the urns derive superior strength and quality due to being hand
made from high firing terracotta clay that will withstand hardy
weather conditions. Please read notes below. Due to the hand making
methods, the dimensions quoted are an approximate guide and may
vary slightly. All the pots have drainage holes.
Glaze Colours
The urns are available in four glazed colours: blue, green, cream,
yellow and black. Alternatively, they are available in natural terracotta,
without a glaze finish. All the glazes have been developed and perfected
at the pottery. The urns are fired for up to 28 hours. Due to the
traditional firing techniques, urns selected from different batches
may have a marginal difference of colour.
Delivery
Carriage by arrangement and will be charged at cost.
Looking after your urn
The urns derive superior strength and quality from being hand made
and fired to a high temperature. High firing terracotta clay is
strong and durable and will withstand hardy weather conditions.
The glaze finishes are sometimes vulnerable to weathering over a
period of years in extreme conditions. In order to preserve the
quality of the glaze finish in such conditions, generously wrap
the exterior with “bubble wrap” or a blanket and then polythene.
Alternatively, move the urns to a sheltered area.
Due to the large size of the urns, it is important that they are
always planted with an adequate amount of drainage material such
as small stones, rocks, old broken pots, or polystyrene blocks.
A rough guide is one third drainage material to two thirds soil/compost
mix.
The urn should then be raised off the ground to ensure good ventilation
and to allow excess water to drain away.
For interior settings, plastic containers are often used to hold
the plantings which can then be placed into the urns. This offers
great flexibility and ease for watering.
